And Guatemala later on blamed México XD , Yeah, Guatemala is very tsudere regarding México (specially considering that they were married ) and sometimes its not known if she wants to strangle México or kiss him, or both at the same time -_-0 more likely she wants him to take the initiative, but México can ve very oblivious because he tends to focus on his own problems and not mess or interfere with anyone else.

Seriously we the countries with maya ancestry (by the way, mayan descendants are still around in present day) we rolling our eyes at the antics of other countries. It became bad to the point that hotels near mayan archeological sites were reserved with years of anticipation, preppers were happy trigger mad about it (in USA), some italians founded a villa somewhere ion the south of México to survive the doom, Vladimir Putin had to appear on TV in Russia to assure that the world would not end, in China there were almost riots in some places by people claiming the end was near, France closed the access to a mountain that supposedly would be safe, companies selling "cheap" (not really) bunkers made big gains and quite a bunch of other crazy examples happened world while.
Did all these people knew anything about the mayas? obviously no.
First of al the are no maya "doomsday prophecies" , second of all is how stupidly people wanted to adapt their own christian and western perspectives that ends are horrible and terminal and never bothered to consider that mayas had a completely different culture. For the mayas end are new beginnings and time passes in cycles (Byt the way, mayas used 3 calendars simultaneously).
However, the tourism was a good business for México and Guatemala :3 , unfortunately the bulding 2 of Tikal in Guatemala was damaged by so many people that archaeologists consider the damage irreparable.
